This guide will let you know what the Snowden zip wire is really like and all you need to know to plan for this adventure activity in North Wales.

Where is Snowden zip wire?
Velocity zip wire Snowdonia is located on the peak of the Penrhyn Slate Quarry in North Wales. Perfectly located for an adventure-filled weekend in the Snowdonia National Park.

What is included with tickets to the Snowden Zip Wire?
Zip world runs two different experiences at the North Wales adventure park in Penrhyn Quarry:
- Velocity 2 zip wire, which includes an initial ride on the smaller ‘Little Zipper’
- Quarry Karts, the UK’s only go-kart experience on a mountain track
Standard tickets will just include the zip wires, and the experience will take a few hours. However, there are plenty of bundles available that give you discounted prices when you buy tickets together.
There is also a tier system for the tickets. If you’re visiting Snowdonia National Park or North Wales for a longer trip, it is cheaper to book this experience for a weekday.
Tuesday, Wed & Thursday: From £75
Weekends and holidays: From £99
Additional costs:
- Video footage/photography is an additional £10 per person. You can buy this in advance or choose to see the footage first.
- Lockers cost £1, so it is best to have zip pockets or leave any larger items in your car (parking is free).
Who can ride the Velocity zip wire?
Kids as young as 10 can enjoy the Snowden zip wire, but anyone under 17 will need a supervising adult.
The weight limit is Min 30kg Max 120kg. Be sure to inspect the details beforehand, especially if you have any health conditions.
Is the Wales Zip Wire good for groups?
Groups of four individuals take to the zip line at any one time. This is great if you’ve booked at the same time as you can arrange it, so you race each other. Otherwise, you will race random strangers at speeds as 100 miles per hour for 1555 meters.
What should I expect at the velocity zip line?
You will be provided with a harness and helmet that a trained member of staff will fit following sign in at reception.
Little Zipper
It is a short 5-minute walk to the first of the zip lines (the little zipper). This is a great adrenaline taster as it is not as long or fast as the other line, so it will help to settle those pre adrenaline experience nerves.
Still exhilarated from the initial ride, you will take a truck with a few more people to the top of the quarry. Due to the rocky and winding terrain, this adventurous journey will take 10-15 minutes.
Velocity 2 Zip Wire
At the Velocity 2 zip line, a similar safety protocol will happen. But, this time, the weight reading done when you got suited and booted will now be assessed against the other people in your group. In addition, resistance flags may get added to your back to even out the speeds of the group.
After your final flight, you will take a walk for 10 minutes back to the reception area to hand over your safety equipment and get a much-needed beer and selfie with the velocity photo frame.
Are there places to eat and drink?
You have two options:
- Picnic benches where you can eat your own food or purchase pizzas, sandwiches, snacks and drinks from a food cart.
- A sit-down meal at the restaurant on the upper terrace. This is a great viewing platform and provides more substantial meals for an adrenaline-filled day.
What can I do about Dog Care?
If you have no other option than to take your dog, there is a doggy daycare option at the quarry. We didn’t use this personally, so we can’t vouch for it, but having heard the dogs barking from it, we suggest leaving your dog with someone else while you enjoy the thrills at this Welsh adventure park.
What should I pack?
Zip world wouldn’t let us use our own go-pro due to safety reasons. Therefore, no need to pack this extra.
What would be useful, though, is packing waterproof clothing and good hiking shoes. North Wales weather is temperamental at best, and Snowdonia national park can experience what feels like all seasons in a few hours. You can leave any belongings you don’t need in your car or pay for a locker.
Zip World Velocity 2 Review in Summary
Does the Snowdonia Zip Wire live up to the hype? If you’ve never experienced a zip wire with your hands behind your back, then this is already something you need to add to your thrill seekers bucket list. Let alone for the top speeds you can go to. Of course, I was expecting it to be faster for the fastest zip line in the world, but that’s the adrenaline junkie attitude, right?
The experience is well organised and in a unique and interesting location. What’s not to enjoy? The only downside is the price; Zip World is not cheap and unless you get bundles or special offers, it could be as much as £90 per person. However, you can’t put a price on experience!
