However, it is always best to look into adventure gift vouchers as they are often discounted and make wonderful gifts for fellow adrenaline junkies. Some of the best deals can be found on the below links:

What are the caverns in Zip World like

Be sure to layer up and wear comfortable clothing as the caverns are set within a historic slate mine. This vast space is so big that you could even pack 75 double-decker buses from floor to ceiling. The best thing about this is that it is an all-weather underground experience. Considering you’re in Snowdonia National Park, this might be a welcome escape from unpredictable weather.

Facilities

There is ample parking, toilets and a gift shop you can browse as you wait. The whole adventure experience will take a few hours. Still, there are additional activities such as seasonal pet care you can arrange if you have taken your dogs on holiday with you. Be sure to do this well in advance and book an early slot to take this option.

Get there 30 minutes in advance to check-in and sign the safety waivers.

Once the countdown to your slot arrives, you will be kitted out with a full safety harness, helmet and zip-lining equipment. An experienced instructor will give you an initial briefing before taking you through the caves to the practice area.

Training:

You’ll be relieved that you are eased into this experience gently with a whole training area. This will allow the instructor to show you what’s required and to manoeuvre your way around the course. Be sure to follow instructions because you will soon be on your own and navigating the nooks and crannies of the 100-acre cavern by yourself! Yep, that’s right, you are on your own all the way around.

Don’t worry, though. You get shown how to work the zip lining equipment and how to stay safe. The training area is pretty straightforward and gives you a little clue about what you are about to do on the main course.

Main Course

Once your instructor passes you, you’re thrown into the deep end, literally.

Two separate climbing and zip-lining courses make up the main event of this adventure booking. Time to put all your fears aside and brace yourself for being suspended 100ft in the air and totally dependent on your own abilities.

Once you make that first zip-line across the huge slate cavern, you’re onto the course, and the only way back is to finish the course. You might feel a false sense of security, but don’t be fooled! This will soon disappear as you come face to face with tiny metal plates protruding from the cliff face taking you to the next obstacle.

We’re adrenaline junkies, but this next part was the hardest and even dropped our stomachs. A hanging chain! You’re up high, there are no nets, and you’re on your own. Don’t look down, and remember you’re safely attached to the wall, so if you do slip, you’re safe and won’t plummet to your death. But it still gives you the fear of falling.

You’re then faced with several zip lines taking you from the cave’s roof down to the floor. Where you have to tackle the longest wire of the entire cave. Still suspended 30ft up with nothing but bright lights shining on your face from the cave floor, you fly across the cave to your next challenge.

How are you at tightrope walking? We’re not the best, as we found out in the Maldives. So this was very daunting. There are so many insanely challenging aspects to this course but these adrenaline pumping moments are what makes this zip world caverns review so positive!

The underground zipline course takes roughly 2-3 hours, depending on how quick (or scared) you are at manoeuvring yourself around the course. You finally come to what you think is the end, and it leaves you with one more surprise.

They call it the stairway to heaven… climbing higher than you have been throughout your entire time at caverns. But first, another tightrope across the cave, but this one is very different. Making you lean over to make sure you don’t fall. Not somewhere you want to be distracted.

Then you climb to the roof of the cave and zip line down to the finish and that’s your Zip World Caverns experience complete.

Zip World Caverns Review in Summary

So do you feel like getting an adrenaline-fuelled experience, facing death-defying drops and screaming zip wires deep underground in the beautiful Welsh countryside? Then zip world the caverns is most definitely for you. The 13 zip lines are easy compared to some of the other tunnels, chasms, rope bridges, tightropes, metal stairs and monkey bars. This mega cavern is most definitely the scariest underground adventure we have ever done and we hope our Zip World Caverns review inspires you to tackle it!
